Like the overall Encompass Rating System, the Culture & Community Beacon is designed to evolve as metrics are developed and ready for integration. Our partnership with Feedback Labs and Guidestar by Candid, and other partners including Fund for Shared Insight, GlobalGiving, and Keystone Accountability, enables us to launch the first version of this beacon with Constituent Feedback information collected on Candid's site.

Feedback practices have been shown to support better Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion outcomes, an essential area of assessment that we intend to further expand and develop in the future. Feedback Labs has documented several studies which indicate that beyond achieving organizational goals, nonprofits that are attentive and responsive to concerns and ideas raised by beneficiaries establish stronger relationships with the people they serve, promote greater equity, and empower constituents in ways that can help to ensure better long-term outcomes. You can find resources to help nonprofits improve their feedback practices here.

Why Rescue A Shelter Dog?

Because shelter dogs are full of love!

Is it because they know you saved them and love you harder for it?

I can't say for certain, but yes.

Jokes aside, there are three things all shelter dogs need to thrive in their new home:

  1. Love
  2. Patient
  3. Training

Older shelter dogs, generally 1+ years old, may have experienced a lot of trauma, which often results in one of 8 common behavioral issues:

  1. Anxiety
  2. Aggression toward people & pets
  3. Resource guarding
  4. Destructive behavior
  5. Housetraining regression
  6. Poor social skills
  7. Leash reactivity & barrier-related aggression
  8. Constant whining

These issues are correctable! Your dog isn't broken, they're just damaged. You can fix them with enough love, patience, and a good training plan.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, finding good dog trainers can be hard. Like everything else, dog training is moving only. but there are great online dog trainers that are proven to work and can help get your new pup on the right path.

Areas We Serve

Areas We Serve

At this time, we serve most of Los Angeles, Orange, and Ventura Counties. We also serve the coastal communities of Santa Barbara County from Goleta south to the Ventura County border and, in the southwestern corner of San Bernardino County we serve the cities of Chino, Chino Hills, Upland and Rancho Cucamonga—dependent on volunteer availability. Sorry, but SCLRR is unable to accept adoption or volunteer applications from residents of Riverside, San Diego, Kern, or San Luis Obispo Counties. We also cannot accept applications from residents of other parts of California or from out-of-State residents.

We limit our coverage based upon the volunteers we have available in each region. We do this to ensure that we are able to perform a personal home visit for each applying family. In addition, if we need to assist one of our previously adopted Labs, we will be able to do so with ease. We apologize if we are not able to assist you due to your location. Please note, we do not make any exceptions to this rule.

We have purposely defined the geographic boundaries in which we operate so as not to overextend our resources, and we have chosen not to extend our coverage into areas we currently do not serve. In an effort to ensure the future success of our organization and the Labs we place, we must be very strict with regard to our operational boundaries. As it is, we already have a widespread volunteer base geographically. Besides, there are other Lab Rescue and mixed breed rescue organizations that already serve areas that we do not. For adoption and volunteer opportunities in those locales, please see “Out of Our Area Resources” below.

If you are one of our families approved to adopt, you need to be willing to travel anywhere within our current coverage area to meet a Lab in the dog’s foster home. For example, you could reside in Anaheim, however, the dog you are interested in meeting might be located in the San Fernando Valley or Ventura. Sorry, but we do not hold public adoption events, nor do we operate a kennel facility.

Often times, we receive requests for referrals to other groups. Please be aware that SCLRR is not affiliated or working in conjunction with any other Rescue organizations. In an effort to assist you, we would like to suggest these alternative resources as the starting point for your search. We hope you find this information useful in finding your new companion!

About Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno

The Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno, Inc. [LRRF] was founded in November of 2010. We are a group of 100% volunteers that seek to find loving and permanent homes for our rescued dogs that have been surrendered for various reasons, come from a neglectful situation, or have been abandoned at shelters or on the streets through no fault of their own.

Come Meet Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno's Pets

We hold Adoptions Events every Saturday (unless otherwise noted on our website) at Petsmart from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. 615 W. Herndon Avenue, Clovis CA (Herndon/Willow)

We also hold other specialty events like Big Hat Days, Clovis Fest or as announced on our website at www.Labrescuefresno.org.

Support Adoption and Rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why Should You Adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.

Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno

Organization Information

Mission Statement

The purpose of "Labradors Retriever Rescue of Fresno" is to rescue abandoned, homeless and neglected Labrador Retrievers. To end suffering and promote the welfare of Labradors through direct action and education of responsible pet ownership. To supply love, human companionship, shelter, food, medical care and spay-neuter services through local veterinarians until permanent placement is secured into a pre-screened loving home.

We promote and wish to eliminate the euthanasia of any healthy, adoptable Labrador Retriever in our country. We do not accept euthanasia as a means of population control for any animal. We believe each dog’s life is meaningful and each deserves a loving home.

The Central California area has one of the highest euthanasia rates in the U.S. We promote the increase of public awareness of the companion animal overpopulation issue and to end the killing of adoptable animals through spay and neuter advocacy.

Labradors Retriever Rescue of Fresno believes that all companion animals should be treated with dignity, compassion and kindness.

Description

Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno has been rescuing and finding qualified homes for Labrador Retrievers since 2008. We obtained our 501(c)(3) non-profit status in 2010. The primary source of our Labs is from City and County Shelters. We are an all volunteer organization covering Fresno, Kings, Tulare and Madera counties.

An enormous number of Labradors are being found at our local SPCA and surrounding area rural shelters. Labradors have also been surrendered or abandoned partly due to the large number of foreclosures in Fresno County. We give every Lab a veterinary exam, inoculations, test for parasites, heartworm, microchip, and spay/neuter. We fix broken bones and provide care for the neglected and abandoned dog. We take in senior and special needs Labs and provide for foster care until we can place them in forever homes. As a direct result of the number of dogs coming into rescue, our resources are severely strained.
