Guide to Leveling Enchanting and Making Gold in Shadowlands

1.

Enchanting in Shadowlands

Enchanting allows you to make your gear better by adding enchants to it. While previous expansions have focused on making most gear slots non-enchantable, Shadowlands advances in the opposite direction and you will now be able to enchant gloves, bracers, chests, cloaks and boots, in addition to weapons and rings!

Enchanting in Shadowlands

You will also be able to enchant top end materials for other professions:

These materials are used, among other things, in the crafting of gear that can become Legendary once infused with Soul Ash IconSoul Ash by the Runecarver in Torghast. Thus, it will be in high demand, allowing you to cut a profit as long as you sell it at the right times.

You will also be able to help out Herbalists and Miners with the new Enchant Gloves - Shadowlands Gathering IconEnchant Gloves - Shadowlands Gathering enchant.

Finally, you can make a wand, Enchanted Twilight Wand IconEnchanted Twilight Wand, which can be upgraded as far as your Crafter's Marks optional reagent allow.

2.

Leveling Enchanting from 1-115 in Shadowlands

Reaching 115 skill in Shadowlands Enchanting is quick, and you might even make a profit while leveling, as long as you pick the correct time to sell your crafts.

The trainer can be found in Oribos, in the northeastern part of the Hall of Shapes:

Enchanting Trainer Location

Remember to buy and use your enchants on the Enchanting Vellum IconEnchanting Vellum item you can buy from the vendor next to the trainer. This will create an item you can use to apply the enchant later, and most importantly, sell to other players!

2.1.

1-25 Shadowlands Enchanting

If you are not in a rush, disenchanting Shadowlands items is the cheapest way to get to 20.

Otherwise, craft Shadowlands Gathering IconShadowlands Gathering until Level 10 and your choice of Illuminated Soul IconIlluminated Soul, Agile Soulwalker IconAgile Soulwalker and Strength of Soul IconStrength of Soul until Level 25.

The gathering enchant is an absolute must for gatherers, and will likely sell well in the first months of Shadowlands. While not as powerful as the later 15 primary stat enchants, the initial 10 primary stat enchants are extremely cheap and should always be used until you have end-game gear at your disposal.

Total Materials for 10 Shadowlands Gathering IconShadowlands Gathering and 15 Illuminated Soul IconIlluminated Soul: 75 Soul Dust IconSoul Dust.

2.2.

25-50 Shadowlands Enchanting

Craft Celestial Guidance IconCelestial Guidance (+2 skill up per enchant) until Level 31, Sacred Stats IconSacred Stats to Level 40 and Bargain of Haste IconBargain of Haste or Bargain of Critical Strike IconBargain of Critical Strike until Level 50.

The first (and by far cheapest) weapon enchant you will find in Shadowlands is Celestial Guidance IconCelestial Guidance, while Sacred Stats IconSacred Stats marks a return to chest stat enchants, reminiscent of WoW Vanilla's Enchant Chest - Greater Stats IconEnchant Chest - Greater Stats.

Total Materials for 3 Celestial Guidance IconCelestial Guidance, 9 Sacred Stats IconSacred Stats and 10 Bargain of Haste IconBargain of Haste: 16 Sacred Shard IconSacred Shard and 68 Soul Dust IconSoul Dust.

2.3.

50-80 Shadowlands Enchanting

Craft Bargain of Versatility IconBargain of Versatility until Level 60, Soul Vitality IconSoul Vitality until Level 75 and your choice of Eternal Intellect IconEternal Intellect, Eternal Agility IconEternal Agility or Eternal Strength IconEternal Strength until Level 80.

Soul Vitality IconSoul Vitality is the highest stamina cloak enchant in the game and also the cheapest, making it a great value option. The top end primary stat enchants, such as Eternal Intellect IconEternal Intellect, will be highly sought after, but are also likely to be very expensive early on, due to using an Eternal Crystal IconEternal Crystal, which require disenchanting epic gear.

Total Materials for 10 Bargain of Versatility IconBargain of Versatility, 15 Soul Vitality IconSoul Vitality(likely to need at least 30 due to recipe becoming green at 70) and 5 Eternal Intellect IconEternal Intellect: 5 Eternal Crystal IconEternal Crystal, 20 Sacred Shard IconSacred Shard and 80 Soul Dust IconSoul Dust.

2.4.

80-115 Shadowlands Enchanting

This is where leveling Enchanting becomes really expensive. While, theoretically, this should not actually lead to a Gold loss because the crafts will also be worth much more when sold, you might want to look out for when the Darkmoon Faire arrives here, for the +5 skill point quest.

Craft Tenet of Critical Strike IconTenet of Critical Strike, Tenet of Versatility IconTenet of Versatility, Tenet of Haste IconTenet of Haste or Tenet of Mastery IconTenet of Mastery until Level 95, Eternal Stats IconEternal Stats, Eternal Skirmish IconEternal Skirmish or Eternal Bounds IconEternal Bounds to Nevel 101, Lightless Force IconLightless Force or Eternal Grace IconEternal Grace to 111 and Sinful Revelation IconSinful Revelation or Ascended Vigor IconAscended Vigor to 115.

Total Materials for 10 Tenet of Critical Strike IconTenet of Critical Strike, 6 Eternal Stats IconEternal Stats, 5 Lightless Force IconLightless Force and 2 Sinful Revelation IconSinful Revelation: 20 Eternal Crystal IconEternal Crystal and 63 Sacred Shard IconSacred Shard.

3.

Making Gold with Enchanting in Shadowlands

Making Gold with Enchanting is all about buying cheap materials or gear and disenchanting it. Check the prices of various enchants on your server with The Undermine Journal and craft the most expensive enchants into Enchanting Vellum IconEnchanting Vellums, ready to turn in a profit.

Due to the cyclical nature in which players buy Enchants for their new gear, most of your profits will come from timing the market in two steps:

  1. Figure out your server's raid days. Wednesday, Sunday and Tuesday nights are the typical candidates. On these days it will be easier to sell enchants for higher prices, both for people looking to enchant their gear before raiding, and especially for people wanting to enchant their shiny new gear after raiding. You can use The Undermine Journal to track the resulting price fluctuation.
  2. Before leaving the website, search for Enchanting material price. Take note of when they are cheapest, and aim to buy during these periods.

You can also search the auction house for Level 51+ green, blue and epic quality gear of any kind. If you find very cheap items, it is likely that they could be disenchanted for a profit, but the exact calculations on how much Gold you could get through disenchanting are best left to an auctioning addon such as TSM or Auctioneer.

3.1.

Enchanted Elethium Bar / Heavy Callous Hide / Lightless Silk

In Shadowlands, high-end Blacksmithing, Leatherworking and Tailoring crafters all require special enchanted materials in order to create gear that can become Legendary and other expensive items.

This opens the possibility of turning a profit by simply buying the baseline materials and enchanting them before reselling them. Again, make sure to price check the materials and the enchanted material in order to make sure you will be turning in a profit!

The only Patch 9.1 addition to Enchanting is the Anima-ted Leash IconAnima-ted Leash, a new toy you can craft for 2 Soul Dust IconSoul Dust and 2 Sacred Shard IconSacred Shard. Buy the recipe for 15 Polished Pet Charm IconPolished Pet Charm at Keeper Ta'hult in Oribos.

3.3.

Crafter's Marks (Item Level Upgrades)

Unlike most other professions, creating item level optional reagents such as Crafter's Mark I IconCrafter's Mark I with Enchanting requires low amounts of materials, with much of the cost being fixed in Immortal Shard IconImmortal Shards.

These can be bought at the Enchanting supplies vendor for gold, and are used by enchanters in large amounts when creating item level upgrade optional reagents and by Engineering belt attachments.

  • 26 Jun. 2021: Updated for Patch 9.1.
  • 09 Mar. 2021: Removed journal mention.

All the enchants in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands to help you be ready for raiding

When players start to hit max-level at the beginning of a new expansion, everyone effectively starts from the same place. Lower ilevel, no endgame achievements, and limited experience with the game’s encounter. How does a player make a great first impression? Having flasks, food, and (obviously) great transmog indicate a raid-ready player. But to really prove they are serious and ready for Heroic (or even Mythic), they need to be fully enchanted and ready to go.

While cost may be a bigger factor here depending on the enchant and your own personal playstyle, below you’ll find all the Shadowlands enchants available (at least at the expansion’s launch).

Role-specific enchants for tanking, healing, and DPSing

When it comes to weapons, Shadowlands kept it simple — any class can use any Enchant regardless of weapon type, but many enchants favor a specific role:

  • Celestial Guidance — This occasionally increases the character’s primary stat by 5% when attacking, using spells, or abilities. A general enchant usable by anyone.
  • Ascended Vigor — Sometimes increases healing received when taking damage. Mostly for tanking, though it may have niche use in PVP.
  • Eternal Grace — Sometimes causes a burst of healing on the target of your helpful spells and abilities. This will grant healers extra healing.
  • Lightless Force — Has a chance to send out a wave of Shadow energy that strikes the first five enemies in front of the caster when using offensive spells and abilities. Basically, extra AOE damage for DPS.
  • Sinful Revelation — Sometimes cause the target of your attacks to suffer an additional 6% damage from your attacks for 10 seconds. Extra burst damage, and only on enemies already being attacked, not like Lightless Force which could hit an area, including enemies that haven’t been hit yet.

Death Knights, don’t forget about your Runeforges! New Runeforge options have been added in Shadowlands and will allow for more customization.

Of course, these enchants don’t necessarily favor ranged Hunters. For Marksmen and Beast Master Hunters, there are attachments crafted by Engineers for their weapons instead:

Rings provide secondary stats

The rings do what they always do — provide secondary stats. And they are named after the Enchants they are — very straightforward stuff here. There are two versions of each, differing in how much of the stat they give, and of course, how much they will set you back in cost or resources:

Armor enchants that should not be skipped

All Cloak enchants increase Stamina. Three increase a tertiary stat, and the fourth just has more stamina than the others:

  • Fortified Avoidance — Increase Stamina by 20 and Avoidance by 30. This is meant for tanks.
  • Fortified Leech — Increase Stamina by 20 and Leech by 30. Best for DPS to offset of AOE damage, and to help the healers out.
  • Fortified Speed — Increase Stamina by 20 and Speed by 30. Great for healers, melee who need to move around a lot, and anyone who feels their class doesn’t have the same movement options as every other class.
  • Soul Vitality — Increase Stamina by 30. Good for anyone where the tertiary stats don’t provide benefits, and dying is an issue.

The chest enchants all provide an increase to primary stats. Additionally, they sometimes give an extra benefit:

  • Sacred Stats — Increase all stats by 20. This is the cheapest option.
  • Eternal Insight — Increase Intellect by 20 and give your spells and abilities a chance to deal additional shadow damage. This is for DPS casters to do more damage.
  • Eternal Bulwark — Increase Armor by 25 and Strength or Agility by 20. The highest stat is always chosen. This is the catch-all for tanks, so Blizzard didn’t have to make separate enchants for Agility and Strength classes.
  • Eternal Stats — Increase all stats by 30. For when that extra 10 to the primary stat is better than any of the bonuses from the other enchants.
  • Eternal Bounds — Increases Intellect by 20 and your mana pool by 6%. Great for healers, and maybe Arcane Mages.
  • Eternal Skirmish — Increase Strength or Agility by 20 and give auto-attacks and auto-shots a chance to deal shadow damage. This is the catch-all for melee DPS and ranged Hunters.

Primary stat and utility enchants in Shadowlands

When it came to bracers, gloves, and boots, the team was creative. More stats? Utility? They compromised. Each of the three slots focuses only on one primary stat. Each slot also has a “catch-all” enchant that works for anyone. For instance, Intellect users will definitely want their bracers enchanted — but gloves and boots? Totally optional.

Bracer enchants (Intellect + faster Hearthstones)

Glove enchants (Strength + gathering speed)

Boot enchants (Agility + reduced falling damage)

Additional temporary enchants that stack

All of the enchants above will stick around until you replace the gear. But that’s not all! There are additional items that will add temporary enchants. And better yet, they stack with the other enchants! However, worse yet, they are created by professions and will cost a lot of gold or resources. Start crafting!

Armor kits add Stamina to your Chest. Originally in beta it added it four slots: chest, legs, hands, and feet, but they recently changed it so only goes onto one slot, applies about four times as much Stamina. There are two types, Desolate Armor Kit (+16 Stamina) and Heavy Desolate Armor Kit (+32 Stamina). They are both made by Leatherworkers and can be applied for two hours. They stack with the Chest enchant and persist through death. Apply it at the very start of the raid or Mythic dungeons, and be prepared to reapply if your night goes longer than two hours.

When it comes to weapons, there are options. Stones are created by Blacksmiths and increase Attack Power. Oils are created by Alchemists and provide special effects. Each last for one hour.

There are two types of stones, Sharpening Stones are added to bladed weapons — swords, daggers, axes, polearms, and fist weapons. Weightstones are added to maces and staves, though why someone wants to increase the AP on staves is questionable. The available stones are:

If Attack Power isn’t right for your character, then an Oil will be better. There are two oils, crafted by Alchemists, that can be applied in place of a stone:

  • Embalmer’s Oil — Gives you a high chance to heal yourself when you deal damage or healing. If already at full health, grants an absorb shield instead. Of all the temporary weapons augments, this is the best for survivability.
  • Shadowcore Oil — Gives you a high chance to deal additional shadow damage when damaging an enemy. The high chance, and how good shadow damage is, will determine if the randomness of this is better or worse than the sustained increase of the AP from the stones.

What should a character have on them in total?

To be fully decked out, and maximized for endgame content, a character should have the following enchants:

  • Chest: Stats.
  • Cloak: Stamina.
  • Rings: Your best secondary stat.
  • Gloves, boots, or bracers: Your primary stat or a bonus Shadowlands passive..
  • Weapon: Varies by class/role (enchants for most, scopes or Runeforges where applicable).
    • As well as one additional stone or oil, if you prefer.
  • Optional: Temporary Armor Kit applied to the chest.

Once you have every slot covered, you’ll be ready to take on Shadowlands endgame content!

Shadowlands cloak enchants

Today we will take a look at another goldmaking favorite in enchanting. This profession usually has great opportunities for both new goldmakers through the shuffle and high end crafting with BiS enchants.

Disenchanting and materials

BilisOnyxia has already done a large amount of testing on the beta on disenchanting. One interesting new addition in SL is the ability to convert materials both ways, you can turn crystals into shards into dust and the other way around at the same ratio. This means that there will be a formula for simply relating the value of materials to whichever the cheapest method is for generating them.

Simply put a rare item is about 2.5 times as valuable as an uncommon item. A Epic Item is about 2 times as valuable as the rare item. I’ll take a deeper look at potential enchanting shuffles in another post with candidate recipes, as we will focus more on the crafted enchants in the rest of this post.

Enchants

This is as usual the core of the enchanting profession. In Shadowlands we get enchants for a much larger number of slots than in BfA, but some of them are essentially class or spec specific. For Boots bracers and Gloves there is one mainstat variant for each, whereas for cloaks, chests, rings and weapons there is something for everyone.

Stat specifics

For Boots, gloves and bracers there are completely similar enchants. Boots get agility, bracers can get intellect and gloves will get strength. There are two levels of enchants, with the cheapest one just requiring X and the top one requiring Y. These should be good. I expect Agility and intellect will sell slightly better than strength as that is typically the case, but we’ll see how it turns out. The best ones require 1 Eternal Crystal and 2 Sacred Shards, which is equivalent to 15 Soul Dust

Chest enhants

Chest enchants come with stats and various cool extra effects like a damage proc. I expect players quickly will math out what the optimal choices are. These require an Eternal Crystal and two Sacred Shards, which is the equivalent of 15 Soul Dust. There’s also a lower level +20 to all stats recipe that just costs 4 Soul Dust.

Cloak Enchants

The cloak enchants are interesting offering you 30 stamina or 20 stamina and one of the secondary stats. The 30 stamina one is cheapest at 4 Soul dust, where the secondary stat ones require two sacred shards and 4 dust for a dust cost of 10 Soul Dust.

Ring Enchants

Ring enchants work exactly as in BfA. they add secondary stats and there are two tiers. The highest tier one requires 3 sacred shards, which of course is equivalent to 9 Soul Dust.

Weapon enchants

Weapon enchants in Shadowlands offer various proc effects. They are the most expensive enchants in Shadowlands requireing 1 Eternal Crystal and 4 Sacred Shards. This is equivalent to 21 Soul Dust.

Celestial Guidance is a lower level weapon enchant for strength users that just costs two sacred shards and 5 Soul dust.

Weapons

Enchanters get to craft a single wand. The base item is uncommon and requires level 50. it can be upgraded with a crafter’s mark to increase the Ilvl, but you cannot chose the secondary stats. We’ll see how it ends up comparing to other caster weapons, but it could be a good option when you unlock crafter’s mark rank 2.

Intermediate materials

The intermediate enchanting materials will be extremely potent. These are needed for the base items for Legendary and will be highly sought after. You need a lot of them and Soul Dust will be in high demand early on. The enchanted Elethium Bar recipe comes from the Avowed reputation vendor, but it only costs 50 sinstone fragments, which is very easy to farm. At present there is no rep requirement.

Overall outlook

Enchants get access to more recipes than the past expansions. With rings, chests, weapons and gloves boots or bracers there are many opportunities for goldmaking. All of the recipes are learned at the trainer, so expect high competition. With the ability to perfectly convert materials there should not be any bottlenecks and higher tier items for disenchanting may be better than ever before.

Intermediate materials should also do incredibly well, particularly early on as they are a major bottleneck for legendaries. You will want to get an enchanter going ASAP for those.

This is a list of enchantments by slot showing permanent non-socket enchantments that can be applied from items/augments or by players with the enchanting profession.

In Warlords of Draenor, the only types of items that may be enchanted are weapons, necklaces, cloaks, and rings. All enchantments for other slots are ineffective on items with an item level of 600 or above.

Warlords-level enchants

In Warlords, the design rule is that non-weapon enchants increase a secondary stat like crit or haste. Nearly all enchants can be done at a player's Enchanter's Study in that player's Garrison, with the exception of most weapon enchants. "Breath" enchants require a level 2 or 3 Enchanter's Study.

Weapon enchants require anywhere from 1-15x  [Temporal Crystal] and 0-10x  [Sorcerous Water],  [Sorcerous Fire],  [Sorcerous Air], or  [Sorcerous Earth]. Breath enchants only require a single  [Luminous Shard], no matter the slot, while Gift enchants require 4x  [Temporal Crystal] and 3x of a sorcerous element.

Weapon

Weapon enchants require the use of an enchanter, with the exception of the Mark of the Shattered Hand enchant, which can be crafted at a level 1 Enchanter's Study.
