As the promo video shows, that level of grip also allows the EV3-F1 to pop a huge wheelie on dry pavement. The EV2 could reportedly climb a 70-degree grade, and it's hard to imagine the EV3-F1 would be any less capable.

Despite the fact that it looks like a design rendering brought to life, this is all very real. Howe & Howe Technologies, run by twin brothers Michael and Geoffrey Howe, cut its teeth developing anti-IED platforms for the military, and the Ripsaw concept has been in development for over 20 years. The company also sells tactical robots for SWAT team use, and was featured on a Discovery Channel TV show called Howe & Howe Tech for two years.

Pricing hasn't been announced yet, but this class of rugged toys—call it "zombie apocalypse cosplay for billionaires"—is never cheap. The EV2 started around $400,000, and you should expect the new high-performance model to be a bit more expensive. But if any single vehicle is worth that kind of scratch, it just might be the EV3-F1. Insane abilities aside, come on—it's a personal tank. Do we need to argue any further?

Kanye West, unsurprising as it may be, has quite the taste for flashy vehicles. A recent Forbes evaluation valued the rapper and fashion mogul at just over $1 billion, noting that around $3.8 million of his net worth is invested in "vehicles."

While West likely owns his fair share of exotics and luxury cars, he seems to have a particular obsession with high-powered, go-anywhere off-roaders. At his massive Wyoming ranches, West has a fleet of Ford F-150 Raptors, 10 amphibious Sherp all-terrain vehicles, and a high-performance tank called the Ripsaw EV2. 

The EV2 was developed for military use by Howe and Howe Technologies, a Maine-based company that has since been acquired by aerospace and defense manufacturer Textron Systems. Billed as a "luxury, high-performance, go-fast super tank," the EV2 is also available to private citizens and carries a price tag that can stretch to "over half a million dollars."

The Ripsaw EV3 F4 Is The World's Fastest Dual-Tracked Commercial Vehicle

Built by Howe & Howe and powered by a 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel engine, the Ripsaw EV3 F4 is a $500,000 dollar machine. The 1,500 hp dual-track machine was built for four passengers to travel off-road and pretty much wherever they like.

As a 2019 AutoWeek report points out, the vehicle features a FLIR (forward-looking infrared) M625cs camera, a pop-up spotlight, and multiple light bars, meaning it can traverse rough terrain at night.

The Ripsaw reaches speeds of up to 60 mph (96 km/h), making it the world's fastest dual-tracked vehicle. The machine's heavy-duty rubber tracks allow the vehicle to hit steep slopes and deal with muddy, sandy, and snowy terrain. An exoskeleton frame makes it incredibly robust and its four-seater floating cockpit and air-spring suspension system mean that passengers won't be in for a completely rough ride. Last month, Howe & Howe released footage (featured below) showcasing the F4 tearing through the mud.

A 'rocketship with tracks'

The EV3 F4's rough exterior makes the Ripsaw's interior all the more surprising. High-end features such as a heated steering wheel, top-of-the-range stereo equipment, and a dual iPad dash. 

The EV3 F4's predecessor, the F1 was described as a "rocketship with tracks" by Howe & Howe, and also, rather disparagingly, as "the most obnoxious vehicle alive." That vehicle was also a 1,500 hp beast, though it had a single-seater cabin. In 2018, The Grand Tour sent Richard Hammond out to test drive Howe & Howe's two-seater EV2 model. Howe & Howe has also partnered with Textron Systems to bring combat versions of the Ripsaw to the battlefield, where it could clearly give operatives a strong advantage over rough terrains. We know we definitely wouldn't want to be attempting to make an escape only to see one of those things churning up a cloud of sand off in the distance.

The Ripsaw is a series of developmental unmanned ground combat vehicles designed by Howe & Howe Technologies (now part of Textron Systems) for evaluation by the United States Army.[1][2]

The Howe brothers started the Ripsaw as a small family project in 2000. They introduced it at a Dallas vehicle show in 2001, where it caught the interest of the U.S. Army. Later that year the U.S. military ordered a prototype MS-1 to be made and shipped to Iraq.[citation needed]

The Ripsaw is intended to perform various missions including convoy protection, perimeter defense, surveillance, rescue, border patrol, crowd control, and explosive ordnance disposal. For perimeter defense or crowd control, a belt of M5 crowd control munitions (MCCM) can be mounted around the vehicle to break up crowds or engage personnel with less-lethal flash-bang effects and rubber bullets. Cameras provide 360-degree coverage for situational awareness for the operator.[3][4]

The Army has tested the Ripsaw while remote-controlled by a soldier in another armored vehicle up to 1 km (0.62 mi) away. Its weapon system is modified to fire remotely using the Advanced Remote Armament System (ARAS), a gun that loads its own ammunition and can swap out various types of ammunition, such as lethal and less-lethal, in just a few seconds. These capabilities allow manned vehicles to send the Ripsaw out in front of them and engage targets without exposing soldiers to threats.[5] As of March 2017, the Army was still testing the vehicle as an unmanned platform to test remote controlled weapon stations.[6]

In October 2019, Textron and Howe & Howe unveiled their Ripsaw M5 vehicle,[7] and on 9 January 2020, the U.S. Army awarded them a contract for the Robotic Combat Vehicle-Medium (RCV-M) program. Four Ripsaw M5 prototypes are to be delivered and used in a company-level to determine the feasibility of integrating unmanned vehicles into ground combat operations in late 2021.[8][9][10] It can reach speeds of more than 40 mph (64 km/h), has a combat weight of 10.5 tons and a payload capacity of 8,000 lb (3,600 kg).[11] The RCV-M is armed with a 30 mm autocannon and a pair of anti-tank missiles. The standard armor package can withstand 12.7×108mm rounds, with optional add-on armor increasing weight to up to 20 tons. If disabled, it will retain the ability to shoot, with its sensors and radio uplink prioritized to continue transmitting as its primary function.[12]

  • Ripsaw MS2 UGV is made to be larger, faster, and more modular than the MS1. It weighs 4.5 short tons (4.1 t) and can carry a one-short-ton (0.91 t) payload. The lightweight tubular chassis design is powered by a 6.6 liter duramax diesel engine generating 600 horsepower (610 PS; 450 kW) and 1,000 ft⋅lbf (1,400 N⋅m) of torque. Fully loaded, the MS2 can accelerate from 0–50 mph (0–80 km/h) in 5.5 seconds and has a top speed of 60 mph (97 km/h). The vehicle can traverse 50-degree gradients and 45-degree slopes. It can be optionally manned or tele-operated from a nearby command vehicle. Armament can include an M240 machine gun or M2 .50-caliber machine gun, and it has been tested with the Javelin missile. If the Ripsaw is damaged or destroyed, parts can be "cannibalized" in the field and re-assembled quickly. An MS2 vehicle costs $750,000.[3][4]
  • Ripsaw MS3 UGV is being tested by United States Army Research, Development and Engineering Command under the Remote Armed Maneuver Platform (RAMP) initiative to integrate the M153 CROWS remote weapon system onto an unmanned vehicle.[14] RAMP was demonstrated at Fort Benning, Georgia in October 2013 as part of the Army's Armed Unmanned Ground Vehicle (AUGV) program.[15]
  • Ripsaw EV2 is a luxury version, with a fully enclosed body and two seats inside the cab. It can exceed speeds of over 60 mph (97 km/h) and has a range of approximately 300 miles (480 km). Robust, Without Sacrificing Comfort

Yes, this is truly a "luxury tank. Howe & Howe has the expertise in this field because the company builds military vehicles and offers products for individual consumers, like the model above that's up for auction. Despite the fact that it is equipped with some tactical equipment, the Ripsaw EV4-F4 does not have any weapons systems.

The tank sports polyurethane tracks, and it has 51 centimeters (20 inches) of ground clearance to face all types of terrain. As robust as it seems outside, however, the cabin has two comfortable Recaro front seats, which are heated and ventilated.

Inside, you'll notice a steering wheel look similar to the yoke offered in the Tesla Model S Plaid. The Ripsaw has two 12-inch touchscreen displays, provided by Garmin. In addition to the classic screen displaying driving information, there is another screen that displays the external cameras. The Ripsaw can also be used at night thanks to its multitude of cameras that give drivers a 360-degree view, thermal views, and even infrared.

A Mountain Of Horsepower Under The Hood

 The Ripsaw's name suggests it has an electric powertrain, but that's not the case. Under the hood is a 6.6-liter turbo diesel Duramax V8 producing 800 horsepower (596 kilowatts and 1,500 pound-feet (2,033 Newton-meters) of torque. The Ripsaw needs all that power because it weighs more than 4.5 tons – about twice as much as a Land Rover Range Rover. Howe & Howe says it's one of the fastest tracked vehicles in the world. According to the American company, the Ripsaw can reach a top speed of 60 miles per hour (97 kilometers per hour).

At the time of writing, the current bid sits at $425,000, with four days left until the auction ends and the reserve still not met. The price has to climb higher before a new owner is crowned.

As crazy as it may seem, the vehicle you see here, known as the Ripsaw F4, is one you can purchase for yourself to go out and dominate whatever the hell you want in your spare time. Look at it for a moment and visualize yourself in this beast. Just imagine what your holidays and weekends would be like.

Before you go too far into a daydream, allow me to tell you a bit about this vehicle; bear with me because it won’t take long. Howe and Howe are the team behind this vehicle. Since 2001, when Geoff and Mike Howe first hit the market with the Ripsaw, they were able to identify a huge potential market and haven’t stopped cranking out vehicles since, landing some pretty serious contractsin the meantime. Their works have even been featured in Fast and Furious 8 and a Jay Leno’s Garage episode.

Now, what makes the F4 so damn impressive, aside from the fact that you can buy one, is the level of off-road freedom that can be achieved in something like this. As it stands, the F4 comes in with a vehicle weight of 10,000 lbs (4,536 kg). Sure, that’s a whole lot of metal, but then again, it’s a tank! The use of steel to complete the chassis ensures a build able to withstand whatever your imagination and terraincan conjure.

Equipped with a high-performance proprietary suspension system and a ground clearance of 20 inches (51 centimeters), you can bet that sticks and stones won’t break these bones.

As for the drive system, tracks are the obvious choice anytime you really want to overcome terrain and really go on a power trip. However, the team isn’t using any metal tracks, but rather rubber; yes, rubber. Think about it, what does rubber do, that metal doesn’t very well? Grip.

Given the use of rubber for the tracks, the F4 can easily climb up sharp slopes, loose terrains, and give one heck of a ride on ice. Turning those tracks is a PPE Duramax Diesel with 375 horsepower or 550 horsepower, with a peak torque of 365 lb-ft (495 Nm) or 700 lb-ft (949 Nm), respectively.

Why the choice? Simple. Howe and Howe allows you to customize your F4. Speaking of customization, these babies can run upwards of $500,000 (€409,200 at current exchange rates) or more, depending on the customers' wishes.

Inside the F4, four guests can take the ride of their life at top speeds of 55 mph (88.5 kph). A DVD GPS entertainment system with rear camera display, digital radio with Bluetooth and high audio system come standard, with front bucket seats and a rear bench housing all occupants. Keeping them in place are lap-only seat belts, while entry into the F4 is done via gull-wing doors.

As I mentioned earlier, this tracked vehicleis customizable. Some available options include tinted side windows, water resistance, enclosed cargo and tool storage, external speakers and CB radio, and several towing accessories and winches. You can also mess around with upholstery and premium sound system options.
