Alchemy is the practice of using herbs to craft potions and elixirs or using stones and reagents to convert one material into another. In WoW, Alchemy is essential for high level raiding and PvP, as the potions and elixirs are some of the strongest buffs available in the whole game and the resistance potions Alchemists can learn to make are vital for completing certain dungeons and raids. As well, the materials Alchemists can create are necessary for almost all endgame crafting, giving you the chance to earn some serious profits. From transmuting Earthstorm Diamond to brewing Flask of Chromatic Wonder or Heroic Potion, Alchemy’s creative breadth is immense.
Overall, Alchemy is suitable for all classes, especially with the addition of endgame trinkets for almost all roles in TBC. Most players choose to also take up Herbalism as their gathering profession, as purchasing all the herbs for your concoctions can become quite costly as you continue to level.
Since patch 2.4, Blizzard has made trainers in all major capital cities able to teach you Apprentice Through Artisan. This guide will require you to buy one recipe in the Western Plaguelands while leveling through Vanilla content, so if you are power leveling straight through, it’s advisable to pick a capital in the Eastern Kingdoms. Otherwise, the choice is yours.
To learn Master, you’ll find your trainer in your faction’s first questing area in Hellfire Peninsula. For the Horde, this will be Apothecary Antonivich in Thrallmar, and for the Alliance, it is Alchemist Gribble in Honor Hold. Both sell multiple recipes you will need, so make sure to read the leveling section carefully in order to stock up before getting too far away.
As well, all players can learn from Lorokeem in Shattrath’s Lower City. You will also need to purchase at least one recipe from them, so keep in mind where they are.
In TBC, Blizzard added the option for players to choose between specializing their Alchemy between Master of Potions, Master of Elixirs, or Master of Transmutations. Each will give you the chance to create an additional item (called a “proc” or “proccing”) when crafting either Elixirs or Potions or Transmuting any objects.
To become a Master of any kind you’ll need to complete a unique quest chain, which you can take from your Master trainer (either Apothecary Antonivich or Alchemist Gribble) once you reach skill level 325 and character level 68. Becoming either a Master of Potions or a Master of Elixirs, however, requires you to complete dungeons or raids that are at the level cap, so it’s advisable to wait until then to do so. Check the Specializations section after the leveling guide to learn more about these.
Vanilla + TBC
1 – 60: Minor Healing Potion
Once you reach 50, become a Journeyman
60 – 105: Lesser Healing Potion
105 – 110: Elixir of Wisdom
110 – 150: Healing Potion
After making enough potions to reach 150, train in Expert Alchemy.
150 – 155: Strong Troll’s Blood Potion
155 – 195: Greater Healing Potion
195 – 235: Elixir of Greater Defense
Stop crafting these at 225 to learn Artisan Alchemy, and then resume making them until 235.
235 – 265: Elixir of Detect Undead
265 – 290: Superior Mana Potion
290 – 300: Major Healing Potion
Once you’ve reached 300, you can cross through the Dark Portal and begin the newest set of recipes! Become a Master Alchemist by training at your first questing area in Hellfire Peninsula. Before doing so, however, you’ll need to find Magnus Frostwake at Caer Darrow in the Western Plaguelands and purchase Recipe: Major Mana Potion.
300 – 305: Major Mana Potion
305 – 315: Elixir of Major Strength
315 – 330: Volatile Healing Potion
330 – 340: Super Healing Potion
Before you continue, you’ll need to purchase Recipe: Super Mana Potion. There is no neutral vendor for the recipe, so Alliance players will need to purchase it from Haalrun at Telredor in Zangarmarsh and Horde players from Daga Ramba at Thunderlord Stronghold in Blade’s Edge Mountains.
340 – 362: Super Mana Potion
For this last step, there are two options. Most recipes start to turn green between 362 and 365. Recipe: Major Dreamless Sleep Potion doesn’t turn green until 372, meaning you can use it to get as close to cap as possible without requiring the rare or expensive reagents required for transmutations. The recipe can be also purchased from Haalrun or Daga Ramba. Transmutations, like in Vanilla, involve changing one endgame crafting material into another with the use of a Philosopher’s Stone. In TBC, Blizzard has added a new, Epic version: the Alchemist’s Stone. The Recipe: Alchemists’s Stone requires Revered with The Sha’tar to be purchased, and it’s sold by Almaador in the Terrace of Light in Shattrath.
362 – 375: Major Dreamless Sleep Potion and Transmutations
Combine Dreaming Glory and Nightmare Vine to craft Major Dreamless Sleep Potion.
You can do any of the following Transmutations:
Regardless of which of the Specialization you end up choosing, all quest will come from your Master trainer in Hellfire Peninsula. This means Alliance will go back and speak with Alchemist Gribble in Honor Hold, and the Horde will need to find Apothecary Antonivich in Thrallmar. To begin, you’ll need to have a skill level of at least 325 and have your actual level at least 68. It’s recommended, however, that you complete these quests once you cap, due to the difficulty of gathering some of the materials.
Each of the specializations has different uses, and based on your personal needs and the economy of your server, the decision of which to pick is totally up to you. Keep reading to find out about the quest lines for all three.
To specialize in Potion crafting, you’ll take the Master of Potions quest from your respective Master Trainer in Hellfire Peninsula and then head to Cenarion Refuge in Zangarmarsh to speak with Lauranna Thar’well. She’ll give you the second leg of the Master of Potions which will require you to bring her:
In total, the materials for these are:
If you did not do so already while leveling, you’ll need to purchase Recipe: Super Mana Potion and Recipe: Major Dreamless Sleep Potion from either Haalrun at Telredor in Zangarmarsh and Horde players from Daga Ramba at Thunderlord Stronghold in Blade’s Edge Mountains.
Once you’ve returned with the Potions and the Field Guide, you’ll become a Potion Master. Other than gathering the Botanist’s Field Guide, Potions is usually considered the easiest specialization quest to complete because you craft all other necessary materials while leveling.
Specializing in Elixirs begins by taking the Master of Elixirs quest from your Master Alchemy trainer, and then heading to Shattrath, to meet with Lorokeem in Lower City. From there, all players will receive the second Master of Elixirs quest, which will require them to bring:
To craft the remaining Elixirs, in total, you’ll need:
After returning with your Essences and Elixirs, you’ll become an Elixir Master, giving you proc chances when making Elixirs.
To specialize in Transmutations, you’ll need to pick up the Master of Transmutations quest, which can be picked up from your original Master Trainer. Regardless of faction, all players are sent to Zarevhi at Stormspire in Netherstorm.
Once you reach him, you’ll be given the second Master of Transmutation quest, which will require you to bring back 4x Primal Might. As discussed at the end of the leveling guide, Transmute: Primal Might requires one of each of the Primal Elements, giving this quest the potential to be either time or cost intensive. Before this, it’s helpful to have at least one of the reputation based transmutations available to ease your work in any way.
After returning with your Primal Might, you’ll become a Transmutation Master and gain the chance to proc additional elements off of each of your Transmutations going forward.
In the Endgame, Alchemy has a couple prominent uses: Gem and Primal Transmutation and Potion and Elixir Crafting. Transmutation can be a tricky use to master, as creating any gems triggers a 20 hour cooldown on all transmutations. But, if you find that an Earthstorm Diamond or a Skyfire Diamond is worth incurring it, the option is yours.
One of the first steps most Alchemists will try to take after capping is crafting one of the four Alchemist Stone variations to suit your specific spec and class needs. The recipes for all of them are sold by Eldara Dawnrunner on the Isle of Quel’Danas and require you to be exalted with the Shattered Sun Offensive. They are:
In addition, TBC added a breadth of Elixirs and Potions, each with unique benefits. Most of the recipes, for potions and elixirs as well as transmutations, however, are only available for purchase after reaching higher levels of reputation with certain factions. The list below explains which recipes require which reputation, and where to purchase them. Others are rare world or dungeon drops, which the list covers as well.
Recipe: Transmute Earthstorm Diamond
Recipe: Transmute Skyfire Diamond
- Requires either honored with Thrallmar or Honor Hold, sold by the faction’s Quartermaster
Classic Alchemy Profession Guide
Alchemy allows you to create some of the most popular and powerful consumables in WoW Classic. Getting many of these consumables is critical if you want to be competitive in PvP or PvE, and it will be convenient to be able to make them yourself.
Potions, such as Free Action Potion or Major Healing Potion, grant you many different sorts of benefits instantly, and have a very short duration, if they have a duration at all.
Elixirs, such as Greater Arcane Elixir, typically grant you a powerful stat buff for a prolonged amount of time. If you die, you lose this buff, however.
Oils, such as Blackmouth Oil, are used as raw materials for other crafts, such as the aforementioned Free Action Potion, and usually made from fish.
Flasks, such as Flask of Supreme Power, work similarly to elixirs, but last longer, persist through death, have bigger effects, and are extremely expensive, due to requiring a lot of materials and one Black Lotus each. They also require an Alchemy Lab to create, such as Ras Frostwhisper's room in Scholomance.
Transmutes, such as Transmute: Arcanite, allow you to convert raw materials into different, much rarer, raw materials. Using the transmute mentioned as an example, the resulting Arcanite Bar is used to craft the best gear, and is involved in many of the steps necessary to obtain Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros and Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker!
Almost all of Alchemy's items are consumed when used. The profession mostly requires herbs and fish, such as Stonescale Eel, to craft. It is expensive to level and maintain it through the Auction House alone, so pairing it with Herbalism and Fishing is very beneficial, allowing you to farm some of the materials yourself.
Alchemy Trainers and Where to Find Them
You can learn Alchemy from any Alchemy trainer, which are generally found near starting zones and in capital cities. When you arrive at a major city, you can ask any city guard for directions and pick the Alchemy trainer option. This will mark its location on your map, allowing you to easily find them and get your Alchemy skills up to date.
Horde Alchemy Trainers
- Miao'zan: Durotar, around 55,74.
- Yelmak: Orgrimmar, around 57,33.
- Bena Winterhoof: Thunder Bluff, around 39,24.

Neutral Alchemy Trainers
- Jaxin Chong: Stranglethorn Vale, around 28,78.
How to Quickly Level Alchemy from 1 to 300
In order to level Alchemy efficiently, you will want to craft orange items in your Alchemy menu whenever it is cheap to do so, as it guarantees a skill up per craft. If you cannot craft something orange, yellow is an acceptable alternative, as these usually give skill ups.
Green recipes will rarely grant you a skill point, making them only worth it when the alternatives are scarce or expensive. Also, keep in mind that gray recipes cannot give you a skill point at all.
If you want a more concrete guide on what to level to get from 1-300, check out this Alchemy leveling guide over at wow-professions.com.
Apprentice and Journeyman
Any Alchemy trainer can train you on these levels of Alchemy. The herbs required are also generally pretty easy to find and cheap.
To level past 150, you need to train at one of these trainers:
- [H] Doctor Herbert Halsey: Undercity, around 48,73;
- [H] Rogvar: Swamp of Sorrows, around 49,56;
- [A] Ainethil: Darnassus, around 55,24;
- [A] Kylanna Windwhisper: Feralas, around 33,44.
In order to unlock 225-300 Alchemy you need to train at one of these trainers:
- [H] Rogvar: Swamp of Sorrows, around 49,56;
- [A] Kylanna Windwhisper: Feralas, around 33,44.
Notable Craft List and Usage Tips
The full list of Alchemy crafts is extremely extensive, but because their effects do not always stack with higher versions of the same effect, only a few of them are very useful in the end game. We will give a short description of those that meet this criteria.
In the many sub-sections that follow, we will cover many of the recipes you can learn as an alchemist, and go over of a lot of useful information for many of them.
Alchemy Drop and Vendor Recipe List
Due to the sheer amount of Alchemy recipes available in WoW Classic, we will list the main end-game Alchemy items first and foremost, with a full explanation.

Other Alchemy End-Game Consumables
These Alchemy consumables are all part of an end-game WoW Classic player's life and all of them can be found in our recommended consumables lists, for PvE and for PvP when applicable.
For PvP, the following consumables are useful.
- Recipe: Free Action Potion is sold by [H] Kor'geld and [A] Soolie Berryfizz / Ulthir. Free Action Potions are one of the most sought-after items in WoW Classic, due to making you almost immune to most crowd control for 30 seconds.
- Recipe: Living Action Potion is sold by Rin'wosho the Trader once you hit Exalted with the Zandalar Tribe. It has the same effect as Free Action Potions, but can be used to break the crowd control effects, only lasts 5 seconds, and is much more expensive. Use it in emergencies.
- Restorative Potion is a reward from the Badlands Reagent Run II quest, which is only available for Alchemists. It combines perfectly with the Free Action Potions mentioned above, as its effect will remove most types of crowd control Free Action Potion does not prevent.
- Recipe: Limited Invulnerability Potion is a Bind on Equip world drop, which is very sought after for its physical immunity effect, especially for Horde casters who lack Blessing of Protection.
- Recipe: Swiftness Potion is also a Bind on Equip world drop, and a very sought after item for its speed-boosting properties, especially for Warsong Gulch flag carriers.
For general stat-buffing, the following are useful.
If you are a tank, you will also require the following recipes.
Recipe: Elixir of Giant Growth is a special elixir, mostly used for its unique cosmetic effect, which makes you grow physically larger.
Finally, the list would not be complete without Health and Mana recovery potions.
- Recipe: Major Healing Potion is sold by Evie Whirlbrew, in Winterspring. When you are about to die and heals are not incoming, this will save your life. You can never have too many!
- Recipe: Major Mana Potion is sold by Magnus Frostwake, near the entrance of Scholomance in the Western Plaguelands. Because he is a ghost, you will need to find a way to see him in order to talk to him. The recipe also rarely drops from Darkmaster Gandling. Similarly to the Healing Potion, if your Mana is running low, pop this to get a second lease at casting. You might want to start popping these early on in an encounter, if that will allow you to use it another time during the fight.
- Because Major Mana Potions tend to be very expensive, consider buying Recipe: Superior Mana Potion from Algernon (Horde) or Ulthir (Alliance), which also restore a lot of Mana, for a much more affordable price. Buying Greater Mana Potion can be a last resort for poor healers, but these are rarely profitable to craft due to their frequent drop rate in Stratholme.
- Consider using Recipe: Greater Dreamless Sleep, which can be bought from Rin'wosho the Trader once you hit Friendly with the Zandalar Tribe. These potions restore nearly as much Mana as a perfectly rolled Major Mana Potion guaranteed while costing much less to craft. Their major disadvantage is requiring you to "channel" them for 12 seconds, which can be too long sometimes. Great risk, great potential!
The most important transmute of WoW Classic is Transmute: Arcanite, which allows you to create an Arcanite Bar every 2 days. This allows you to make gold passively, as long as you remember to use it on cooldown.
The value of the other transmutes (which mostly have 1-day cooldowns) is completely dependent on the market value for each of the raw materials and resulting materials, but is often higher than that of the Arcanite transmute, when taking into account its 2-day cooldown, so make sure to make your calculations every so often to understand where to use your transmute cooldown!
Recipe: Philosopher's Stone is sold by Alchemist Pestlezugg, and this allows you to craft Philosopher's Stone, which is required in order to perform any of the transmutes.
Alchemy Spell Protection Potions
These potions protect you from a specific damage type, making them very useful whenever fighting enemies that deal this type of damage. Use the Greater versions for stronger protection, at the cost of more expensive materials.
Alchemy Trainer Recipe List
The following recipes are all learned directly from the Alchemy trainers; among them there are a few important crafts to take note of. The list is ordered by the skill level at which you can learn each item, with lower skill items being listed first.

This Classic WoW Alchemy Leveling guide will show you the fastest way how to level your Classic Alchemy skill up from 1 to 300 as inexpensively as possible.
Alchemy is the best combined with Herbalism, with these two you can save a lot of gold because you don't have to buy the herbs from the Auction House. Check out my Classic Herbalism leveling guide 1-300 if you want to level herbalism.
The materials are based on a case that you will gain one skill point for each craft. This won't happen, so you will have to buy a few extra materials while you are leveling your Alchemy.
I recommend using Zygor's 1-60 Leveling Guide if you are still leveling your character or you just started a new alt. The guide is in a small window on your main screen in-game, all the detail that you need to complete the quests are included. You’ll never have to switch back to a website, or even the in-game main map to see where you have to go or what’s next.
Alchemy guide sections:
Approximate Materials Required:
There are a lot of yellow recipes used in the guide which means you won't gain skill points every single time. I added 10-20 extra herbs for most of these recipes, but it's still possible you will have to get a few more if you have the worst luck.
Playing Burning Crusade Classic?
Use my TBC Alchemy leveling guide 1-375 instead. There are a few changes to trainers and recipes, so you should use the Burning Crusade guide for the 1-300 part.
Classic Alchemy Trainers
You can learn Classic Alchemy from any of these NPCs below, but you have to reach level 5 before you can learn it.
Just click on any of these links below to see the trainer's exact location. You can also walk up to a guard in any city and ask where the Alchemy trainer is, then it will be marked with a red flag on your map.

4. Leveling Alchemy 1-300
Now that we have all of the materials, these are the things you need to craft to reach 300 Alchemy. Some skills turn yellow before hitting the desired level and the numbers may be off by a point or two due to good/bad luck. Here we go !
First, visit any trainer in the main cities of Azeroth. You may just ask a guard, and learn Alchemy. Once it’s done, you can buy some [Crystal Vial] at "Alchemy Supplies" vendors, they are usually near the Alchemy trainer. Learn Apprentice - up to 75.
You must return to a profession trainer in order to learn the next rank to keep increasing your skill:
- Apprentice - up to 75
- Journeyman - up to 150
- Expert - up to 225
- Artisan - up to 300
However, for the "Expert" and "Artisan" skills, only 1 master is able to help you progress.
For the "Expert" skill, meet Dr. Herbert at Undercity on Horde sides, and at Ainethil in Darnassus for the Alliance
For the "Artisant" skill, meet Rogvar at the Marsh of Sorrows for the Horde and Kylanna Windwhisper in Feralas (Pennelune Bastion) for the Alliance.

The member of Oleg and Vova got stronger quickly. I got up, leaned on the railing, bent down, put it in front and then it started. Vova, Oleg, then Dima, but they were not doing all this for themselves, only Oleg managed to finish in my ass. Back to the apartment, I walked naked, Dima carried my raincoat, sperm was flowing down his leg from the priests, I walked like a plague and enjoyed everything that was happening.
Another fantasy came true, or rather two, fucking in the entrance and naked in the entrance.
